"At Kidlington, in Oxfordshire, the custom is, that on Monday after Whitsun-week there is a fat live lamb provided
and the maids of the town, having their thumbs tied behind them, run after it"

[Ed This image said to illustrate the custom was added to the 1822 edition but I have not been able to verify this. However it does illustrate a taborer] folk custom1679 imagined in 1822-Kirtlington maids with thumbs tied chase the lamb
